Ice Fishing on Mendon Ponds

Yesterday Jake, Mark, Jovan and I spent the afternoon on Hundred Acre Pond in the Mendon Ponds Park. We put in at Hopkins Point pulling our newly constructed ice sled. The temp was about 20 degrees with a brisk 10 mph wind. There were two other clam shells on the Pond. The ice varied from 6-9" of black ice. We fished about 20 holes for 3 hours and did not catch anything. The other fisherman reported a very slow day as well with small northern pikes being the only fish biting. Fortunately our Church, the Mendon Church, was having their annual winter picnic in the nearby West Lodge in the Park, so we were able to get lots of excellent food and the kids were able to get some time in sledding. We had a lot of fun and the kids thought it was cool that much of the equipment we were using was Jake's Great-grandfather/Mark's Grandfather-Willard Morton's old ice fishing equipment that he would use on Chautauqua Lake.
