Tough Day on Conesus Lake Ice Fishing

Abbey & Jessica

Andrew, Jessica, and Abbey making the dragWell a disappointing day on the ice at Conesus Lake, but fun to be with my daughter Jessica, niece Abbey and nephew Andrew.  We started the day at the State boat launch on the eastern shore about half way down the lake.  The night before I picked up shiners and fat heads at my favorite place to get minnows, the Outdoor Store.  The boat launch was full of rescue firemen/women and their rigs.  They were training pulling people who broke through the ice.  The girls were a little unnerved at first but one fireman told them the ice was thick enough to drive a firetruck on it.....boy was he right!!!   We dragged about 1/2 mile and just about killed ourselves trying to drill one hole as the ice was 24" thick.  I had never seen ice this thick.  So we packed up and went to the north end of the lake.  There we met Rob and Andrew, along with 100 other fishermen, and dragged everything out on the ice.  There must have been over 200 tip ups on the ice.  The ice was only 12" thick here.  No bites, no action, nor did we see anyone else with fish.  Bummer, but it can only get better :-)  We capped it off nicely with a hot soup lunch at the American Hotel.
