Limekiln Lake ice fishing March 2010
Spent 20 hours up on Tracy's camp in the Adirondacks on Limekiln Lake. There was about 8 inches of snow still on the ground. It was glare ice out on the lake. We picked up 20 fat head minnows from our favorite minnow store called the Outdoor Store. Jake and I went out about 8 am and there were already several other groups on the ice. They were smart because they all had power augers and we had a hand one. the ice was surprisingly thick, 20+", way more than the reported 6-8" we had heard from others. It was a little unnerving because we were not too far from open water. We actually saw two 14" ish splake come up to the hole. A very pretty fish, silver with orange colored fins, characteristic of the Salmonidae family. While the ice fishing proved to be tough, the kids once again enjoyed brauts on the ice.
