Canal Menagerie~Whole New World

Original Erie Canal Aqueducts
Tough couple days of fishing in the FingerLakes was topped off with an unexpected adventure up the Erie Canal~Seneca River.  With beautiful spring weather in the 60's Dave and I launched his boat on the Cayuga Canal in Montezuma Natural Refuge.  From there we fished the labyrinth of canals all the way to Cross Lake.  I had never heard of Cross Lake but it was beautiful.  The Seneca River actually runs directly through the south end of the lake.  We both we were amazed that neither of us were aware of this massive waterway and fishery.  On the day we saw bald eagles, muskrats and beavers.  The water temp was 48 degrees and the water looked to be about 2 feet below normal.
