First Outing on Honeoye Lake-Chase'n Crappie
This AM we made our annual family outing for the crappie on Honeoye Lake. I was somewhat pessimistic about the day as yesterday my good friend was on Keuka Lake and he said the water temperature was only 39 degrees, hich is way too cold for crappie. We launched at the north end of the lake which is perfect as there is no line-no waiting and it is free! Hannah and Jake took turn driving as they are now licesnsed drivers. We drove to the south end of the lake and were greeted by 35 other boats, all hunkered down on a postage size piece of water. The water temperature was 49.5 degrees, but there was so much sun that by 10:00 AM the temperature was up to 53 degrees and that is when the action picked up. Too many people left early s there was no bite until the temperature hit this mark. The kids caught 13 and their Dad caught "0". Slip bobbers, minnows, and lots of hot cocoa seemed to win the day. The boat ran great and it was a real treat to have Jake drive the boat up on the trailer...no more Dad having to climb in the cold water to pull the boat on the trailer! So, let the games begin :-)
